Octavia's father, Tyrel Biles, worked at the City of Providence Water Department.  Her mother, Zara Biles, was a registered nurse.  Her brother, Darius, worked at the power company.  Her husband was an at home day trader.

Shortly after Octavia moved to Barrett Base with the Hoagland relocation, her husband Yitzhak committed suicide.

After the Hoagland Institute relocated itself to Barrett Base, it sought accreditation to offer advanced degrees.  Octavia availed herself to this and received a Masters Degree based upon her experience and was promoted to La Practitioner (equivalent to the previous position of Lab-Tech I).
